Many of our visitors fall in love with alpacas and dream of owning one—but quickly learn that alpacas thrive in herds, require specialized care, and live 20+ years. That’s a big commitment!
But don’t worry—we’ve created a way to make that dream possible.

With our Buy & Board Program, you can own your very own alpaca, while it continues to live and thrive right here at Northern Solstice Alpaca Farm in Unity, Maine. Your alpaca will receive exceptional daily care, stay surrounded by its alpaca family, and even greet guests from all over the world—while you enjoy all the joys of ownership without the daily chores.

• You own the alpaca 
• We provide the care ($6/day covers food, daily care, and annual vaccines) 
• You keep the fleece—your alpaca’s annual harvest is yours 
• You keep the offspring—if bred, you own the cria that will also remain here on the farm
• You choose your farm name and we register it with the National Alpaca Registry 
• You enjoy anytime access via our 24/7 Farm Live Stream and optional Zoom tours 

Because your alpaca(s) stay here on the farm, purchase prices are significantly reduced, making this one of the most affordable and low-maintenance paths to alpaca ownership available.

Whether you want to create yarn from your alpaca’s fleece, start building your own alpaca herd, or simply experience the joy of ownership from afar—this program gives you the flexibility and peace of mind to do it your way.

Our current Buy & Board participants live all over the country—some visit regularly, others just once a year. No matter how often you're able to visit, your alpaca is well-loved and well cared for every day.

We provide clear purchase and boarding contracts and spend plenty of time reviewing all program details with you before completing the sale. If you ever decide to end your ownership, we’ll help you find a new buyer who will continue boarding your alpaca here—giving you full flexibility.
